Community Visitors Scheme has been discontinued.
The program has been discontinued.
The Community Visitors Scheme is a national program funded by the Commonwealth Government.
The scheme aims to enrich the quality of life of residents of aged care homes who are isolated or lonely, and would benefit from a friendly visitor. The Scheme also helps to establish and reinforce links between residents of homes and their community. Friendly contact can help to reduce the risk of isolation.
The Polish Community Visitors Scheme was established in 1993.
Since 2006 we provide services as Rainbow Community Visitors Scheme assisting residents of Slavic origin. We provide companionship to socially isolated people with Slavic backgrounds living in Aged Care Facilities.
Who can be a Polish Community Visitor?
Any mature, responsible person who can speak one of the Slavic languages and is interested in providing friendship and companionship to an elderly resident can become a volunteer.
We expect our volunteers to be able to visit a nominated residents for at least one hour per fortnight.
